AYURVEDIC MASSAGE ABHYANGA

SHIRO ABHYANGA (anointing with oil on the head)

The application of oil on the head for a specific period of time is called Shiro abhyanga.
Shiras = Head
Abhyanga = Massage
The head is the most important organ of the body because all the sense organs are located there, such as the eyes, ears, nose, and tongue.
Hence massage on the head provides nourishment to all the sense organs and promote their normal and natural functioning.
Either the same person can apply the oil or another person can also do this head massage.
After this massage the excess oil can be wiped or washed off.
The water used should not be hot.
If hot water is used on the head, it will reduce the strength of the eyes and the strength of the hair.
Normally lukewarm water or water at room temperature is used for washing on the head.
Vegetable powder can be used to remove excess oil from the head.
